Kelly: Fight Against Terror Must Remain Top Priority For Next Mayor

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says whomever is elected mayor the fight against terrorism has to be a priority.

Speaking to members of the Association for a Better New York and council on Foreign relations Monday, he said he's very concerned and shocked candidates have not asked him directly about counter terrorism efforts.

"And I can tell you none of the candidates has requested a briefing from the department on this topic. I believe the public has the right to ask them some important questions. For example, what is their understanding of the terror threat to New York City and its immediacy. What is their perspective on the role the NYPD should play in protecting New York from global terrorism," Kelly said.

Candidate for mayor Bill de Blasio says he asked for a briefing two weeks ago.

Bill Thompson says if elected he would sit down with Kelly and the next police commissioner for a briefing.
