Malcolm Berko: NextEra Energy is compelling long-term buy

Dear Mr. Berko:
My wife, my three youngsters and I might move to Miami. I've been offered two positions at 35 percent more than I'm making now, but we're reluctant to move because we'll be so far from both our parents and family members. But believe it or not, we're both die-hard Dolphins and Marlins fans (long story), which would make the move more tolerable. What can you tell me about NextEra Energy, which is one of the two companies that might hire me? I might even buy 100 shares for my individual retirement account. ? LP, Oklahoma City

Dear LP: NextEra Energy is one of the best "foreign" utilities I know of. In another lifetime, long, long ago, it was called Florida Power & Light. NextEra Energy (NEE-$80) serves 9.2 million people in a fast-growing 27,600 square-mile service area, encompassing southeastern Florida ? where Spanish is often the preferred form of communication, the schools stink and the crime rate is off the charts.
