Marine Sgt. James "Matt" Amos will receive the keys this weekend to a home built for him by the Wichita Area Builders Association through its Home Builders Care Foundation and in coordination with Homes for Our Troops
Cargill Beef will donate $100,000 to Homes for Our Troops, the nonprofit organization behind construction of a specially adapted home near Mount Hope for a wounded Marine and his family.
Marine Sgt. James ?Matt? Amos on Saturday will receive keys to the home, which was built by the Wichita Area Builders Association through its Home Builders Care Foundation and in coordination with Homes for Our Troops. Amos, who lost both legs when he stepped on an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in 2011, receives the home mortgage-free.
For Amos? new home, Cargill is donating a large freezer filled with beef, according to Cargill spokesman Mike Martin.
In addition to the $100,000 Cargill will give Homes for Our Troops this weekend, Cargill also raised $18,600 for the organization through a burger tent at Century II during the BlackTop Nationals and at an event at its Dodge City beef processing plant, Martin says.
The company also plans to make Amos the face of an 18-month point-of-sale campaign at retailers nationwide to try to raise additional money for Homes for Our Troops.
The public is invited to Saturday?s 11 a.m. ?key ceremony? for Amos at the home at 25011 S. Haven Road, near Cheney Reservoir.
