Attorney General Jon Bruning has launched an investigation into whether a Texas law firm has violated Nebraska law.
The Attorney General?s office says Farney Daniels LLP of Texas has sent multiple letters to Nebraska businesses, threatening lawsuits over patent infringements. The office says the law firm sent the letters on behalf of ?patent trolls?, companies that buy groups of patents solely to threaten infringement of the patents they buy.
??Patent trolls? make egregious threats with little or no valid legal purpose to gain fast money,? said Bruning in a written statement released by his office. ?It is a top priority of our office to protect Nebraska consumers and businesses from this sort of baseless harassment.?
Bruning has issued a Cease and Desist Order and Civil Investigative Demand to the law firm.
